Beat the Summer Reading Slide!

As we know summer is coming, and many students are going to take this as a time to forget about school and have some much needed fun...BUT I want to spend the last few weeks with my students showing them the way BEAT that summer slide!
My first grade team and I have decided to create lesson plans, homework, and a library night to encourage reading throughout the summer, everyday. We plan on creating our own reading goals for at home, create a reading spot, make a reading box, create reading response journals, and ALOT more! I am pretty excited for all of this to come together! Oh! And our school is also going to be participating in BOOK WARS (more motivation!!) - our school has read the most books for 2 summers in a row! Bring it on Summer 2015!

Check back soon for lesson plans, homework schedule, and activities for Summer Reading and reflection!
Here is what I am working on for end of the year reading reflection. It's a FREEBIE! So grab it and give me some feedback. :)  (I copied the 2 pages front and back to have it ready for the last weeks of school) ;)

Use the Story Kit App to Publish Narratives!

We are starting a new adventure with Narratives! We started our Narratives when we began 1st grade and now we redoing them to show how much we have grown! We are adding feelings, moving or characters, and stretching out our small moments. I love using the lessons from Lucy Caulkins, she is amazing! Check out here books here.

First download the Story Kit app! If you are using an iPad, like we are, you have to download it for iPhones only. Click the app picture to get the app now!
It is super simple to use, students can add there pictures, text, and voice to their books that they create then email them to their teacher to then post on Twitter and print! My class LOVES creating on our iPads from Donors Choose.

Here are some examples of Narratives I created and my class created. (mine is a little more simple so we could read it and practice editing our work and adding to our work)
